  • how is the decision made which character makes a match if you have 2 characters of the same color? eg. Storm (Classic) and Black Widow (Original) both have blue but in my case Storm makes the match and Black widow's espionage ability doesn't activate... Is there a method to this? an order

    • yes the amount of blue tiles each characters have, if it is the same amount then the middle character get the honor..

    • so is it possible to have Black Widow (Original)'s espionage ability trigger with Storm (Classic) on the board?

    • Amihaib: Did you mean that whichever character's skill costs more? in the case above Storm's costs 13 I believe and Black widow's costs either 11 or 9.

    • not cost but their power for each color tile if you have both of them at max level it will be randomly pick up for you, if they are not in the same level storm will always go because her blue stats is higher...

but espionage should work if you team up both of them for either purple or black match...

    • There are three things which one must consider each turn: 1) "Active" abilities require having the required amount of AP of the required color in order to "activate". Storm's "Wind Storm" ability is "active" with a cost of 11 AP. 2) Damage for the match is determined by who would do the most damage for that color. If Storm's "blue" damage is 15 but Black Widow's "blue" damage is 20, then matching 3 blue tiles will do 60 damage (3 * 20) instead of 45 damage (3 * 15). 3) "Passive" abilities, which activate when some set of conditions is met, do just that. It doesn't matter which character of yours (or the opponent's) makes the conditions that activate the ability.

This last point is actually very important, since it's the reason Daken's "Pheromone Rage" ability is so obnoxious: it doesn't matter who makes the match, the strike tiles are placed because the conditions are met.

Probably what is happening, then, is that the opponent doesn't have any blue AP when you make the match.

NO. If Storms basic match does more damage for blue you won't steal a blue. You will only steal a tile if the match does the most damage from black widow. It is annoying but SHE has to make the match. I don't use black widow if I have buffed storm.

From my experience, this seems to be correct. The description of the ability coincides with this fact - it specifically says "When she attacks by making a XXX match...". This means that if you are using a low level OBW in a team with higher attack values for the colors in question, she will not be able to proc espionage. I do believe her passive is the only one that works this way, though.

    • The answer to this is very simple, whichever character will deal the most base damage for the match, will be the one attacking. So, simply look at the blue damage for each character, and whoever is the highest will do the attack. So, that means Black Widow needs to be leveled up high enough that her Blue damage is higher than anyone else on the team (in order for her to make the attack on a blue match).

    • what happens though when both classic storm and original black widow have an equal blue tile damage? who makes the match then? I did some digging and found that both widow and storm do equal blue damage at equal levels. and since my black widow is at level 85 i cant test this out, because if i do and storm ends up making the match at level 85, i cant level storm down again. has anyone tried this before? or have the answer?

    • storm makes the match,if bw and her are at level 85 :(

    • Don't quote me on this, but I've seen mentions that the priority order for equal matches are based on their position in the line-up (center, left and right), with center having priority. Even if this is correct, there are exceptions - most notably noticeable in enviromental tiles - often related to required characters for missions.. Though enviromental may also be following it's own individual rules altogether. Either way, it would need some extensive testing to be confirmed.

    • Minaro was on to something. i've tested this with a a level 15 hulk, 15 juggernaut and an 18 ragnarok. all 3 having 11 attack damage with green tiles. the order you select them does seem to matter, the center one gets priority on equal damage, then the one on the right, and finally the left. however, the level of the heroes also matters. ragnarok made the green match in all scenarios, because he was of a higher level. when i left him on the bench for someone with lower green damage, the attack order became clear. so if i put hulk on the left, juggernaut got priority and vice versa. so hero rarity (number of stars) does not matter either. hope this helps anyone.

    • I do have the same problem with wolverine and Ares. Both use red, yellow and green powers. It looks like a random thing. But after reading the things "a wikia contributor" wrote down, it all makes sense. So, thank you!

    • thank you minaro. you've hit the nail on the head. it's exactly as you mentioned. Centre takes top priority, then left, and lastly, right.

    • As best as I can tell, here's how the game decides which character attacks for a given tile:

[note: different star levels of the character complicates tie-breakers (more below.)]

      1) Highest damage for that color

      2) Highest level character

      3) Position on character selection screen (1 Center, 2 Left, 3 Right)

How many covers each character has in that color's power does not matter.

      Here's my evidence:

      A) I had a level 17 Bag-Man who does 12 damage in purple, alongside level 83 Storm and Thor who only do 9 damage in purple, and the purple tiles belonged to Bag-Man.

      B) I had level 83, 2-star Storm with 5 blue covers and level 82, 2-star Black Widow with 5 blue covers, both of whom do 43 damage per blue tile. But blue tiles belonged to the higher level storm, no matter the character selection order.

      C) I leveled up Black Widow to 83, she and Storm now tie on stars, level, blue covers, and blue damage, but now the blue tiles are assigned according to the character select screen (center out-ranks left and right, left outranks right.

      D) I had level 41, 2-star, 3 green cover Ares and level 41, 2-star, 5 green cover Wolverine who both do 25 green damage. Green tiles followed the character selection order. So we know that number of covers doesn't matter, otherwise Wolverine would've won the tiebreaker both times.

The only one I can't explain is that I have a level 40, 1-star Black Widow who does 7 damage in red. I teamed her with 7 different level 40, 3-star characters (1 cover each, none red) who all did 7 red damage. Even when I put Black Widow in center, the red tiles always went to the 3-star characters EXCEPT for Daken (other characters: Blade, Kamala Khan, Rocket & Groot, Sam Wilson, Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl.) When I looked up the seven 3-star characters' damage dealt at level 166, they all did 13 red damage, except for Daken who did 12. So if characters have different star levels but do the same damage, the tie-breaker might be where that color ranks for the character (1-6, each character having three strong colors and three weak colors)?

      Anyway, hope that helps.
