Kaine was the first of the Jackal's semi-successful experiments in cloning Peter Parker that did not immediately degenerate. After some time, however, slow genetic deterioration became apparent. The clone came to call himself Kaine and eventually adopted a costume that showed his deterioration, but reproduced the web-like scars that ran all over his body. Taller and stronger that the original Spider-Man, Kaine protects from the shadows.
